Are International A Levels Accepted by Universities Worldwide?

How to check university recognition of CAIE and Pearson Edexcel International A Levels without assuming every programme has identical requirements.

Recognition does not settle programme eligibility

A university's statement that it recognises International A Levels does not mean every subject combination meets every degree's requirements. Imagine two applicants with equally strong grades applying for engineering. One has the required Mathematics; the other does not. The recognition of their qualification is the same, but their programme eligibility may be different. Work backwards from the precise course admissions page, and obtain clarification about unusual board combinations.

Check the exact applicant category

For universities in Singapore, applicants holding international qualifications should consult the relevant qualification-specific route. Do not assume that Singapore-Cambridge A Level admissions criteria automatically apply to Cambridge International or Pearson Edexcel IAL students.

For UK, US and Australian institutions, consult the admissions page for your chosen programme and entry year, then ask the university directly if your particular subject combination is unclear.

A five-step recognition checklist

  • Identify your exact qualification and examination board.
  • Locate the university's official international qualifications entry page.
  • Check programme-level subject and grade requirements.
  • Confirm whether additional assessments or documentation apply.
  • Save the source and date of the requirement and recheck before submitting.
